David Anderson is the Sea Turtle Conservation Coordinator at Gumbo Limbo Nature Center. He supervises the collection of sea turtle nesting data along Boca Raton’s five miles of beach. He and his team conduct early morning beach surveys, mark and monitor nests, evaluate hatch success, and enter data into electronic databases. He uses geographic information technology to perform research and analyze trends associated with all sea turtle nesting activity in Boca Raton. David also conducts night-time lighting surveys, gives educational presentations about sea turtle biology and conservation, leads night-time sea turtle walks and hatchling releases, and responds to sea turtle stranding events. His work ensures the protection of the coastal environment by providing guidance to issues such as coastal construction, night-time lighting, beach renourishment, mechanical beach raking, shorebirds, and dune vegetation.
